What does the Connections Gala support?
For more than 50 years, Outreach Teen & Family Services has provided judgement-free mental health counseling to thousands of families across the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Our agency eliminates many of the barriers to care, ensuring families have affordable, accessible mental health counseling and programs regardless of their ability to pay.
Event proceeds ensure we can continue providing subsidized counseling sessions to families who otherwise could not afford this critical mental health care. Partners of the Connections Gala help us meet an increasing demand for counseling, as well as a growing need for innovative, educational programming that allows us to meet families where they’re at. With your support, we can ensure that cost is never a reason a family hesitates to seek help.
Why mental health care matters.
The National Institute of Mental Health reports that 1 in 5 children will have a serious mental illness in their lifetime, with 50% of all lifetime cases beginning by age 14. Even more alarming, suicide is the second leading cause of youth and young adults ages 10-14. Your generous support of the Connections Gala helps us do our part to bring down these staggering statistics.
Outreach serves as a first line of care to help youth reestablish confidence in managing their mental health. The earlier we can intervene with a mental health challenge, the more likely a young person is to develop tools to cope with their concerns and grow into a resilient adult. Early intervention is crucial to reducing the chances that a common developmental hurdle becomes a more serious, long-term mental health concern. It saves families time, stress and costs in medical expenses.
