Stephanie Petchel graduated from Waynesburg College with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. While at Waynesburg she played three years of collegiate basketball and ran one season of track. At Waynesburg, Steph’s focus was working with marine mammals and after graduating a semester early, she went to the Florida Keys as an intern to work, train, and care for dolphins. Her later endeavors brought her back to Pittsburgh to pursue another area of interest, which is working with people.
Stephanie graduated from Carlow University in 2017 with a Master’s in Professional Counseling. Currently, Steph works with adults in the mental health outpatient department at St. Clair Hospital where she leads therapy groups. Steph uses a strength based approach and incorporates cognitive behavioral techniques into her practice. Steph also works with individuals on educating and implementing a variety of coping skills to help better manage depression and anxiety.
Steph has a decade’s worth of experience working with youth with emotional and behavioral problems in an outdoor setting with the emphasis on experiential learning. She has volunteer experience working with women in a recovery setting, and working with youth at an after school program.
Steph is working towards licensure, and is excited to be working at Outreach!
